Speaker: Deidre N. Jackson
Speaker bio: With more than twenty-five years’ experience as a legal secretary at several large firms in New York and Washington, D.C., Deidre currently serves as the newly minted Firm Administrator at Hobbs, Straus, Dean and Walker.
Deidre is most proud of the contributions she has made as a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and the Racial and Social Justice affinity groups. Deidre has focused on connecting firms with community service initiatives that provide hands on active engagement in Washington, D.C. In 2022, Deidre became the first Black non attorney staff member to facilitate a firmwide cultural competency program that reached more than 200 attorneys and barristers covering two continents.
Deidre enjoys reading, golf and the theatre. In the community, she is actively engaged in politics and activism in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Deidre was appointed by the County Executive to the Advisory Committee on Aging serving as the Chairman of Strategic Planning and was most recently confirmed by the county council to serve on the Prince George’s County Commission for Women.
Deidre is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the Association of Legal Administrators. Deidre earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University, master’s degree from Georgetown University, certification in law firm management from George Washington University and is a doctoral candidate at Liberty University working on her dissertation focused on creating pathways to leadership for minority attorneys in U.S. law firms.
Summary of presentation: This session will provide guidance on how leaders can enhance the sense of belonging in a firm by creating an open and welcoming environment in which employees can be their authentic selves.
